  • Graduate student members and post-doctoral fellows affiliated with the Resource-aware Programming research group are expected to participate in the seminar. This includes signing up for the course, attending all lectures, and presenting at giving at least three presentation each semesters. PhD students are expected to sign up for the course as a graded, 3-credit course.

  • Undergraduate students may take this course for 3-credit hours. In this case, the course requirments are 1) picking a project topic in coordination with the professor, 2) three presentations on your work during the course (suggestion: survey of required reading and proposal, mid-term status report, and final report), and 3) a term paper on a project that they worked on during the semester. It is strongly recommended that the student present a draft of the term paper before the seventh week of the semester.

  • Phd students may take this course for 4-credit hours, and it may count towards area requirments (currently under review). In this case, the course requirments are 1) picking a project topic in coordination with the professor. The amount of material covered here should be comparable to reading a book on semantics and solving selected exercises, or preparing a paper submission for a research conference, 2) three presentations on your work during the course (suggestions: survey of required reading and proposal, mid-term status report, and final report), and 3) a term paper on a project that they worked on during the semester. It is strongly recommended that the student present a draft of the term paper before the seventh week of the semester.

Important Guidelines

  • All participants must schedule the dates for their talks in the first week of class. Scheduling your talk is your responsibility.

  • Each presentation should be treated as an oral exam on the subject. A presentation should be delivered in 25 minutes, and allow for 20 minutes of discussion.

  • Changing the date of a presentation with less than one week's notice can result directly in a drop of one grade point.
